No pictures today. A day of flux for us, and more then a little bit of stress. Apparently we are not destined to go to italy on this trip. After we woke up extremly early this morning, we hopped on our train (a stop early) we took the 1hour train from Nice, France to Ventimille, Italy. Upon arriving at the station we rushed to find our train to Florence, only to find out that a few rail lines in italy are on strike. So many of the trains were cancelled due to the strike, the best part, is that there is notice of whether a train will be cancelled until exactly 5 minutes before departure time. So our options were to either try and hope that a later train would be able to take us to our destination, BUT we would still miss all our connecting trains which we paid to reserve, because the next train was not until much later in the day. Our other option was to take a bus out of town for a few hours, that would arrive to a more major bus terminal, then we MIGHT be able to catch another 6 hour bus to our destination. So we made our own option.
We headed back to paris for the rest of our trip, to avoid any other italian railway strikes, and while i write this i am currently sitting on the express TGV to Paris. We thought the nightmare was over once we fixed our train schedule, but we still need places to sleep, so we snuck into a "Flunch" buffet, that had free wifi service, and frantically booked hostels in Paris until our train arrived. For some reason almost everywhere was booked from tonight until next sunday. So after a crazy frantic search and a lot of hair ripping, we figured out accomadations. They are not simple (four different hostels) but they are all in paris, so how bad can it really be?
We kept saying "I wish we were still in Paris!"
Its true you must be careful for what you wish for.
We are very dissappointed we will not be in italy (especially venice) and it will have to be on our next trip, but we are both exited to stop jumping from city to city so much, and to be in our favorite place. Pictures tomorrow!
